Alpha Xi Delta

This time of the year is a very important time for girls who are in Greek life because it is recruitment time! Over the weekend, we had three rounds of recruitment, philanthropy, sisterhood, and preference. After all of the rounds, we have Bid Day which is a day where we celebrate all of the new members that have joined and this year I was in charge of running it. In philanthropy we explain the organization that we work with which for my sorority it is Kindly Heart Campagne. Which is partnering with your town and helping them get back on their feet with all of the covid effects. During this round, you are able to get many new girls and get the vibe of the new girls that might join your chapter. I really enjoy this round because we are able to have a say on who is joining and I really love meeting all the people who would love to join.

The next day is sisterhood night which is when you get paired with girls that you have more stuff in common with. This day I was talking to a girl in every round because with switching my major and being involved in different clubs, I had a lot in common with the potential new members. It was very nice being able to meet so many people but I talked to one girl that I have met before and really loved talking to her. While talking to her, she had many of the same values as the girls in Alpha Xi and I knew that she would love to be in the chapter.

The last night, preference was my favorite night out of all three rounds. There were two girls that I was

heart selling, which means telling them why they should join and all of the amazing things that Alpha Xi has brought me. The first girl that I was heart selling was the girl that I was talking to in the sisterhood round. I loved her and knew that she would fit in so well with everyone and talking to her was so easy. The other girl that I was heart selling was someone from my lacrosse team that I saw more as a sister than anything. This was the first time I talked to her during the recruitment process because the recruitment chairman knew that we were more of sisters so she wanted to let her meet other girls in the chapter. When I sat down to heart sell her and as soon as I sat down she told me that she only wanted to join Alpha Xi and I started to cry. After that we both were sitting there crying because I knew on bid day that she would be running home to the place that I have fallen in love with.

Bid day is the day that wraps everything together. I had to wake up very early to set up everything to make sure that the new girls would have the best day. After setting up, I had to rush and get ready for the new members to run home and I was even more excited because both of my girls were running home to Alpha Xi. All of the sororities will gather around the grass standing in front of the house while we wait for the new member to run home to use. One by one they will say the names of the girls and they would run to their new home. I watched the girl I got close with from sisterhood run home to my best friend and I gave her the biggest hug but I was waiting for my basically sister to run home. When they said her name, she ran to the front of the Alpha Xi house and I was holding the sign with her name and we gave each other the biggest hug and we both started crying again. This weekend has been very busy but I would not change it for anything.

  1. Congratulations on your new members! I know in Zeta Tau Alpha it was such a long weekend of recruitment, but it was well worth the wait. Meeting your new members really boosts chapter moral. I know when the girl I had preffed had run home to Zeta I was so happy. I hope the recruitment process helped enhance your chapter!

Christmas Formals

Each year, Alpha Xi Delta hosts their Christmas formals which is one of the nicest events that we throw in the fall semester. This allows everyone in the chapter to get all dressed up and spend time with each other. This year, we were able to bring dates with us so I brought Megan. Megan knows a lot of the girls in my sorority because a couple of our friends are in the chapter so it was super fun to hang out with everyone. We started getting ready for the formal a couple hours before it started so before people could come to my house to take pictures and hang.  After some time, we all headed to the event and it was so much fun! When we first went there, we spent 30 minutes taking pictures of the different backdrops that they had set up. It was nice to have different options and fun to take pictures with everyone in the chapter. After some time, we went back upstairs and got hot chocolate and sat at the tables. Everyone talked for time and caught up with everyone else. Once everyone was

Welcome to Ada!

While I was just home last weekend, my parents wanted to come up for the weekend. One of the main reasons for them coming is Megan's parents were also coming up and this would be the first time they have met. We wanted to have a tailgate for the football game with them to get to hangout with all of our friends. In addition to hanging out with Megan's parents, my older brother and I surprised my parents by driving down to The University of Cincinnati to pick up my younger brother,  Aiden.  They haven't seen him since leaving for school so we thought this would be really cool for him to join us this weekend. When my parents saw Aiden, they were shocked. They had no idea that we were going to pick him up for the weekend. This made this whole weekend that much more fun!  We all got the our tailgate location in the late morning. The parents set up all of the food that was made and everyone enjoyed each others' company. A lot of Megan and I's friends showed up to socializ

Unexpected Visits

Ohio Northern is an amazing school but freshman year, my best friend, Kendyl transferred halfway through the academic year. She was unhappy on campus and knew that the best thing was for her to leave. I supported her knowing that Ohio Northern was not the place for her anymore but ever since, I felt like a part of me is missing. Throughout the remainder of the year, Kendyl and I would FaceTime at least once a week, as this was the best way to stay in touch and feel connected to each other.  Sophomore year came around and I was really struggling. I did not enjoy my major and was having minor roommate problems. Kendyl recognized that I was miserable and asked what she could do to help me feel better. I conceded that a weekend visit would really help. At first she did not think she would be able to, but after some convincing she made the trip. This was the best weekend I had all year! Whenever we are together, we always have the best time. Laughing the whole time, there is never a dull mo
