When looking at the content that is in chapter three of "Essential of Social Media Marketing," the section of text that I want to take a deeper look into is the part that reads, "each platform has its own language and audience, how those audiences share and communicate on each network differs." When looking deeper into this small section of text, I am able to see that this has a very important message within it. The concept that there are different ways to communicate on different platforms can be hard to understand this might be due to the fact that there are so many different platforms out there that knowing the different ways of communicating can take a second. An example of this can be Instagram versus TikTok, with Instagram, you are getting to your audience by posting pictures and then adding a caption under it to explain that event. When it comes to TikTok, you are posting short videos and have hashtags under that to connect with your audience. As more and more people from different generations (older and younger) join social media platforms the way of communicating are slightly changing because each generation is used to their way of communicating and that is getting reflected onto the platforms.
Each time you open an app, your brain automatically flips a switch to the way that you communicate on that app so we really never think about the different ways we communicate. Another example of this would be when you are on Instagram you like a picture to show that you care about what that person is talking about. On the other hand, if you are communicating on Twitter the way that you show that you are engaging in what someone is posting you can retweet that post or you can respond and give your thoughts. At the moment you are not thinking of the different ways you communicate but rather just doing it. This is just something that is engraved in our brains and is something that we don't even have to think about anymore. Each platform has a different community and those communities are groups of people that work together and understand what others are posting and wanting to get across. Many people are a part of more than one multiple community of social media but that makes the world of social media a very close community. Social media is a very large and powerful community and making sure you understand how each different platform communicates is essential.
I agree that there are different ways to communicate depending on social media platform. There are a lot of differences between each platform in terms of how we communicate and how we interact with the platform itself. I think a big portion of these differences is clued in by the actual interface or environment of the platform. The same thing happens in real life as well. For example, the way I communicate and act is different depending on if I am in the office, a classroom, my apartment, or in a store. There are lots of little cues that change depending on where I am. It is the same and different on social media – the same in that there are differences depending on platform, different in terms of what changes between platforms. Learning these differences is definitely important, especially little ones that may out you as not being familiar with a specific platform. Following all the minor details will allow you to connect more closely with regular users of that platform.
