Trying to relax over the extended has been a very hard task for my friends and I. We all have a lot of homework and exams that we need to study for so it feels like there is no time to enjoy ourself. In addition to that, I am the chairman for bid day (sorority recruitment) so this is my busiest time of the school year. Trying to play an event that all of the new members will remember but also that is just as good as the years before is a difficult task. One of the most important things that I have learned through my years of college is how important it is to have study breaks. For myself, I have to take a break about every 30 minutes to refocus and take a second away from all of the work. If not studying in the library with my friends, we will normally come back to my apartment to study. This allows us when taking our breaks to play a game of Mario Kart.
While Mario Kart might seem like a game that is very outdated, to my friend group it is our go to game. Sophomore year, my friend Lacey brought her Wii to campus and we loved playing Mario Kart and Just Dance in our free time. We would play with the dorm open and people would always stop by and play a game with us and this was the way that I met my friends that I am closest with to now. They were walking around the dorms looking for something to do and saw that we were playing and insisted they could beat us. We played and one of the girls won and ever since that day they would always come up and play with us.
Now that it is junior year, Lacey lives off campus in a house and we wanted to have a Wii that we can put in an apartment since the rest of us all live very close to each other. I brought up my Wii this year and we played just as much as last year. This year we are using Mario Kart more as a break from when we are studying. This is because all of us have hard classes this year and spend most of the night studying. We set a timer for 40 minutes and when it goes off it means that we can take a break and play a quick round of Mario Kart and then get back to work. This has really helped me because I have a hard time sitting and studying for a long period of time so it helps break up the time.
Hi Sydney! I completely understand the stress you are under for recruitment, as I am also very stressed out making our signs for bid day. It is awesome to see that you and your friends are taking the time out to relax and just turn your brain off for a little break. Sometimes all we need is a nice break to regroup and get back to work.
ReplyDeleteHey Sydney! I decided to bring my Wii this year, and my only games I ended up bringing was Wii Sports, Just Dance, and Mario Kart. It really is the perfect way to take a short break, but it has a definite end so that you can easily stop playing. Me and my friends have so much fun playing, and it is a much needed few minutes to recharge and not take everything so serious. I hope your bid-day goes well!
