The Beach Squad

While being at school is very fun, getting FaceTime calls from the kids that I nannied over the summer makes me miss all of the memories that I made this summer. One of my favorite things from summer was my group that we called The Beach Squad. The Beach Squad was our group that would always go to the beach everyday and we would be there from nine in the morning till five in the afternoon. The people that were in the group were my best friend, Amelia and the two girls that she nannied, Scottie and Mia. Additionally, it was me and the kids I watched, Matthew, Luke, Beau, and Sophia.

Everyday, we would start off our morning doing the summer reading and math that their mom wanted

to get done. Once we finished, we would as a group make the lunch that we wanted to take down to the beach. I would tell each kid what food they should grab so we were able to get it done fast, this was also a way to get them all to help out. After we packed our lunches, everyone would go put on their swimsuits. The older two were able to do this on their own but I helped the younger two. Once that was done, I would get everything packed up on the golf cart and we would drive down to the beach. We always made it a competition with Amelia to see who got down faster which we won most days.

Once we got down to the beach the kids would spend most of the morning playing on the playground and in the sand. Amelia and I would always be on the swings or on the picnic benches talking to the lifeguards. The kids loved playing with each other which made this summer so amazing because they were always happy. Once it got to lunch time, we would all sit down and eat lunch, somedays, if there was no one swimming in the lake, the lifeguards would eat with us, which the kids loved.

After lunch, it warmed up enough so all of the kids would want to go swimming so they would run down to the water and play in the shallow part. If it was a really hot day, Amelia and I would get in with them and go into the deep end and they would jump off of the diving boards. Most days we were the only people at the lake which got hard some days because all of the kids would fight but we were always able to figure out fun activities for them to do.

Many days, at the end of the day we would always walk or golf cart to my house to visit my mom who works at home and visit my siblings. All of the kids loved going to my house because there were always so many people that loved playing with them but also they liked playing with the dogs. My mom would always give the kids a treat to give the dogs and they thought it was the coolest thing to throw a treat to the dogs.

While I really love being at school, I also love getting FaceTime calls from the kids. Whenever I see my boss's name pop up on my phone I get super excited and drop what I am doing to pick up the call. The mom is always asking updates on how school is doing and I really enjoy talking to her too. I have worked for this family for three year and my whole family has gotten very close with them. Whenever they go on golf cart rides or walks past my house they will always stop and talk to my family which makes me happy that we have created this really close bond. Each year, we have a Christmas dinner with them because to us, they are family and always will be.

  1. I totally relate to this! I miss the little boy I babysit at home so much and when he FaceTimes it makes my day. You really create a bond with the kids you watch without even realizing it. I can't wait to go home and visit! You seem to really enjoy the family you nanny for.

Christmas Formals

Each year, Alpha Xi Delta hosts their Christmas formals which is one of the nicest events that we throw in the fall semester. This allows everyone in the chapter to get all dressed up and spend time with each other. This year, we were able to bring dates with us so I brought Megan. Megan knows a lot of the girls in my sorority because a couple of our friends are in the chapter so it was super fun to hang out with everyone. We started getting ready for the formal a couple hours before it started so before people could come to my house to take pictures and hang.  After some time, we all headed to the event and it was so much fun! When we first went there, we spent 30 minutes taking pictures of the different backdrops that they had set up. It was nice to have different options and fun to take pictures with everyone in the chapter. After some time, we went back upstairs and got hot chocolate and sat at the tables. Everyone talked for time and caught up with everyone else. Once everyone was

Welcome to Ada!

While I was just home last weekend, my parents wanted to come up for the weekend. One of the main reasons for them coming is Megan's parents were also coming up and this would be the first time they have met. We wanted to have a tailgate for the football game with them to get to hangout with all of our friends. In addition to hanging out with Megan's parents, my older brother and I surprised my parents by driving down to The University of Cincinnati to pick up my younger brother,  Aiden.  They haven't seen him since leaving for school so we thought this would be really cool for him to join us this weekend. When my parents saw Aiden, they were shocked. They had no idea that we were going to pick him up for the weekend. This made this whole weekend that much more fun!  We all got the our tailgate location in the late morning. The parents set up all of the food that was made and everyone enjoyed each others' company. A lot of Megan and I's friends showed up to socializ

Unexpected Visits

Ohio Northern is an amazing school but freshman year, my best friend, Kendyl transferred halfway through the academic year. She was unhappy on campus and knew that the best thing was for her to leave. I supported her knowing that Ohio Northern was not the place for her anymore but ever since, I felt like a part of me is missing. Throughout the remainder of the year, Kendyl and I would FaceTime at least once a week, as this was the best way to stay in touch and feel connected to each other.  Sophomore year came around and I was really struggling. I did not enjoy my major and was having minor roommate problems. Kendyl recognized that I was miserable and asked what she could do to help me feel better. I conceded that a weekend visit would really help. At first she did not think she would be able to, but after some convincing she made the trip. This was the best weekend I had all year! Whenever we are together, we always have the best time. Laughing the whole time, there is never a dull mo
