Fall Break


While being at school is always fun, getting the chance to go home is a nice break. I am close with my family so going home is always an amazing time. This weekend was very busy yet enjoyable. One of my favorite parts was when all the neighbors came over to watch the Cleveland Browns game. My family loves hosting parties, especially for the Browns game! This tradition started when I was in third grade and has been happening since. Whenever there is an away game, everyone will come over to my house and we will watch the Browns play on the projector we have in the garage.

This has grown substantially from where it all started. In the beginning it was just a couple families, but as the years have gone by, more and more people started coming. An hour before kickoff, the people who live across the street will come over to help us set up. They will assist with setting up the chairs and tents, get the grills started up and even helping move the couch outside. While this might seem excessive to watch a football game, this has become a tradition, and everyone loves to coming. 

Over the years, we have created different traditions for games throughout the season. Every year for the first away game, there is a rib cook-off. Each family brings a couple slabs of ribs which are judged by my younger brother's friends. Though this may sound friendly, everyone gets very competitive, which makes thing even more fun! Each year, a trophy is passed down to the new winner for them to sign and date. Additionally, there are prizes for the top three finishers. While the ribs are my favorite annual tradition, everyone else is a fan of the chili cook-off. This tradition began the first year that we started the garage parties. The chili cook-off happens in the middle of the season and many people show up. My family is close with the entire neighborhood, so we genuinely enjoy bringing everyone together with football. This is also enjoyable for my brother and I when we come back home from college because we can catch up with everyone in one place, which makes things easier! I also get to see the kids that I nannied for the last couple summers since they are very close with my family. I love college, but being able to come home every once in a while, is the best feeling.

Christmas Formals

Each year, Alpha Xi Delta hosts their Christmas formals which is one of the nicest events that we throw in the fall semester. This allows everyone in the chapter to get all dressed up and spend time with each other. This year, we were able to bring dates with us so I brought Megan. Megan knows a lot of the girls in my sorority because a couple of our friends are in the chapter so it was super fun to hang out with everyone. We started getting ready for the formal a couple hours before it started so before people could come to my house to take pictures and hang.  After some time, we all headed to the event and it was so much fun! When we first went there, we spent 30 minutes taking pictures of the different backdrops that they had set up. It was nice to have different options and fun to take pictures with everyone in the chapter. After some time, we went back upstairs and got hot chocolate and sat at the tables. Welcome to Ada!

While I was just home last weekend, my parents wanted to come up for the weekend. One of the main reasons for them coming is Megan's parents were also coming up and this would be the first time they have met. We wanted to have a tailgate for the football game with them to get to hangout with all of our friends. In addition to hanging out with Megan's parents, my older brother and I surprised my parents by driving down to The University of Cincinnati to pick up my younger brother,  Aiden.  They haven't seen him since leaving for school so we thought this would be really cool for him to join us this weekend. When my parents saw Aiden, they were shocked. They had no idea that we were going to pick him up for the weekend. This made this whole weekend that much more fun!  We all got the our tailgate location in the late morning. The parents set up all of the food that was made and everyone enjoyed each others' company. Unexpected Visits

Ohio Northern is an amazing school but freshman year, my best friend, Kendyl transferred halfway through the academic year. She was unhappy on campus and knew that the best thing was for her to leave. I supported her knowing that Ohio Northern was not the place for her anymore but ever since, I felt like a part of me is missing. Throughout the remainder of the year, Kendyl and I would FaceTime at least once a week, as this was the best way to stay in touch and feel connected to each other.  Sophomore year came around and I was really struggling. I did not enjoy my major and was having minor roommate problems. Kendyl recognized that I was miserable and asked what she could do to help me feel better. I conceded that a weekend visit would really help. At first she did not think she would be able to, but after some convincing she made the trip. This was the best weekend I had all year!
