Friday night was for sure a highlight of the school year! In Greek life, we have something called big/little. A big is someone who you look at as a mentor in life. The connection you make with your big throughout college, lasts a lifetime. This is a huge deal for the new member and the potential new bigs. Girls will spend hours going on different dates with members to make sure they find someone they connect with but for me, this was the easiest thing ever.
Since the start of the school year, there have been two freshmen, Katie and Becca that have meant so much to me. They both joined Alpha Xi and I could not have been happier. Becca is on the lacrosse team with me and we spend of a good amount time together so we have been able to get really close. Katie is in the same friend group as Becca so that is how we met but as time has passed, she started meaning so much more to me.At our weekly meeting with all of the girls in our sorority, someone said that we needed to start going on dates for big/little but I never really thought about going on dates because I already knew who I wanted. I never questioned having anyone else but the one problem is, having two littles (twins) is not a popular option. Each year, some girls do not even get one little so for me to get twins was almost for sure a no. After talking to Becca and Katie, they were both in love with the idea of being a twin so now all I had to do was talk to the president and see if it was possible. After meeting with her multiple times, she approved allowing someone in the chapter to get twins and I could not have been happier!
On the night of big/little, all of the members gathered in the house and we waited for different duos to get revealed to each other. I was at the end of the line and waiting felt like forever. After an hour, it was finally our turn, I walked up behind the sheet and waited while Becca and Katie were getting moved to the other side. The sheet dropped and we all ran and gave each other the biggest hug! Katie turned in and said "It is official!" Hearing her say that meant everything to me. We have all been waiting so long to officially become a family and it finally happened.
Sydney, I am so happy you got the two littles that you wanted! I know the process is problem kinda challenging to pick people you barley know but still have to choose someone you get along with! I hope you have great friendship forever!
