Missing Home

With Thanksgiving break right around the corner, I am missing my family more than anything. I have not been able to go home since fall break and being away from everyone had been hard. I have three siblings and we are all very close. My older brother Patrick, transferred to Ohio Northern last year and it has been really nice having him at school with me. We don't see each other much but there will be random time where we will run into each other on campus or he will text me and ask to come over for a little.

My two other siblings, Aiden and Emma are still in high school so I only get to see them when I go home. Aiden and I have always been very close from a young age. My dad, Aiden, and I are a lot more advantageous than everyone else so we are always doing something crazy. I have found people here in college who are like Aiden, something about sharing all the memories with family can never be beat. Emma and I never got along growing up but when I got to college, we got super close. We talk almost everyday and I miss not being around her. One of our favorite things to do is go to Target and just walk around. This might sound boring to some but we love just being able to walk through the aisles and find random stuff to buy.

My family has always been very close and I love it. When everyone is home for the holidays, we always enjoy doing new things together. Both of my brothers have long term girlfriends who have joined in on everything that we do. I have gotten very close with them and love when they join along. One of my favorite memories as a family from over the summer is when we went blueberry picking.

Everything we do as a family somehow turns into a competition so when we went blueberry picking this happened. Everyone was in a pair, my mom and dad, Aiden and his girlfriend, Patrick and his girlfriend, Emma and her friend, and my best friend and I. The goal was to see who could fill their bucket the fastest and while this seems harmless, someone always starts throwing blueberries at others and everyone's competitive side comes out. Everyone starts laughing and having an amazing time. I cannot wait to go home for Thanksgiving break and the adventures we will go on.

  1. Hey Sydney! I totally understand how you feel. I can't wait to go home for Thanksgiving break. Fall Break was nice, but having a full week with my family will be nice and not as rushed. I am one of 5 kids so I miss the loud house. Hopefully next week flies by so you can enjoy being home!

Christmas Formals

Each year, Alpha Xi Delta hosts their Christmas formals which is one of the nicest events that we throw in the fall semester. This allows everyone in the chapter to get all dressed up and spend time with each other. This year, we were able to bring dates with us so I brought Megan. Megan knows a lot of the girls in my sorority because a couple of our friends are in the chapter so it was super fun to hang out with everyone. We started getting ready for the formal a couple hours before it started so before people could come to my house to take pictures and hang.  After some time, we all headed to the event and it was so much fun! When we first went there, we spent 30 minutes taking pictures of the different backdrops that they had set up. It was nice to have different options and fun to take pictures with everyone in the chapter. After some time, we went back upstairs and got hot chocolate and sat at the tables. Everyone talked for time and caught up with everyone else. Once everyone was

Welcome to Ada!

While I was just home last weekend, my parents wanted to come up for the weekend. One of the main reasons for them coming is Megan's parents were also coming up and this would be the first time they have met. We wanted to have a tailgate for the football game with them to get to hangout with all of our friends. In addition to hanging out with Megan's parents, my older brother and I surprised my parents by driving down to The University of Cincinnati to pick up my younger brother,  Aiden.  They haven't seen him since leaving for school so we thought this would be really cool for him to join us this weekend. When my parents saw Aiden, they were shocked. They had no idea that we were going to pick him up for the weekend. This made this whole weekend that much more fun!  We all got the our tailgate location in the late morning. The parents set up all of the food that was made and everyone enjoyed each others' company. A lot of Megan and I's friends showed up to socializ

Unexpected Visits

Ohio Northern is an amazing school but freshman year, my best friend, Kendyl transferred halfway through the academic year. She was unhappy on campus and knew that the best thing was for her to leave. I supported her knowing that Ohio Northern was not the place for her anymore but ever since, I felt like a part of me is missing. Throughout the remainder of the year, Kendyl and I would FaceTime at least once a week, as this was the best way to stay in touch and feel connected to each other.  Sophomore year came around and I was really struggling. I did not enjoy my major and was having minor roommate problems. Kendyl recognized that I was miserable and asked what she could do to help me feel better. I conceded that a weekend visit would really help. At first she did not think she would be able to, but after some convincing she made the trip. This was the best weekend I had all year! Whenever we are together, we always have the best time. Laughing the whole time, there is never a dull mo
