Podcast: Social Media and Effects on Mental Health

When thinking about a topic that I wanted to cover in my podcast, I wanted to speak about something that has an impact on my life. Social media has played a huge effect on people's mental health in ways that can not be expressed. In my podcast, I wanted to break down and explain how social media is affecting our mental health and what are some changes we can make to not letting social media affect us.

The first thing I did was plan out what I wanted to say in my podcast. I wanted to make sure that I was getting all of the correct information on the topic and the sources that I was using were valid. I broke down my thoughts into many different groups of what topics I wanted to speak about, this can be seen below. This really helped me record my podcast because it gave me ideas of what I wanted to talk about with cited facts within the podcast. Writing out everything helped when recording my podcast because I already knew what I wanted to say.

When it comes to recording a podcast, it makes it so much easier when you are able to use personal examples. When I was in high school, social media had a huge effect on my mental health and I knew that the best thing for me at the time was to take a break from social media. Picking a topic that I have experience in really helped me feel more confident when speaking about the topic.

When it came to recording the podcast, it took me a couple of tries to get the right volume tone down but after a couple tries, I got it right. Additionally, I wanted to make sure that I was saying all of the words correctly and there was no mistake. When I first recorded, I was talking too fast and was mumbling over my words but when I slowed down, it felt more confident with my podcast that I produced. 1. Hey Sydney! I had the same issue of having to re-record my podcast until I got the volume right. I think talking about mental health in social media is super important, especially with all the young people tuning in. Being able to research a topic that you have experience makes researching a lot more enjoyable.

  2. Sydney, I had some issues about getting the volume right too. I sounded very quiet in my podcast, but I think I got it right. It was easier than what I thought it was to create and edit a podcast and I had a lot of fun with it. Keep up the good work!

Christmas Formals

Each year, Alpha Xi Delta hosts their Christmas formals which is one of the nicest events that we throw in the fall semester. This allows everyone in the chapter to get all dressed up and spend time with each other. This year, we were able to bring dates with us so I brought Megan. Megan knows a lot of the girls in my sorority because a couple of our friends are in the chapter so it was super fun to hang out with everyone. We started getting ready for the formal a couple hours before it started so before people could come to my house to take pictures and hang.  After some time, we all headed to the event and it was so much fun! When we first went there, we spent 30 minutes taking pictures of the different backdrops that they had set up. It was nice to have different options and fun to take pictures with everyone in the chapter. After some time, we went back upstairs and got hot chocolate and sat at the tables. Everyone talked for time and caught up with everyone else. Once everyone was

Welcome to Ada!

While I was just home last weekend, my parents wanted to come up for the weekend. One of the main reasons for them coming is Megan's parents were also coming up and this would be the first time they have met. We wanted to have a tailgate for the football game with them to get to hangout with all of our friends. In addition to hanging out with Megan's parents, my older brother and I surprised my parents by driving down to The University of Cincinnati to pick up my younger brother,  Aiden.  They haven't seen him since leaving for school so we thought this would be really cool for him to join us this weekend. When my parents saw Aiden, they were shocked. They had no idea that we were going to pick him up for the weekend. This made this whole weekend that much more fun!  We all got the our tailgate location in the late morning. The parents set up all of the food that was made and everyone enjoyed each others' company. A lot of Megan and I's friends showed up to socializ

Unexpected Visits

Ohio Northern is an amazing school but freshman year, my best friend, Kendyl transferred halfway through the academic year. She was unhappy on campus and knew that the best thing was for her to leave. I supported her knowing that Ohio Northern was not the place for her anymore but ever since, I felt like a part of me is missing. Throughout the remainder of the year, Kendyl and I would FaceTime at least once a week, as this was the best way to stay in touch and feel connected to each other.  Sophomore year came around and I was really struggling. I did not enjoy my major and was having minor roommate problems. Kendyl recognized that I was miserable and asked what she could do to help me feel better. I conceded that a weekend visit would really help. At first she did not think she would be able to, but after some convincing she made the trip. This was the best weekend I had all year! Whenever we are together, we always have the best time. Laughing the whole time, there is never a dull mo
