Self Defense Class

Over the weekend, Alpha Xi had our sisterhood event and it was very different from years before. At noon, everyone met in the house so we could have lunch together. They got us Chick-fil-A and we all were able to sit around, eat and catch up. Everyone has been so busy this semester that it has been hard to hangout without distractions. After lunch, we played a game that helped break the ice between the new sister and the current sister. I really enjoyed this activity because both of my g-little are new members and I was able to learn so much new stuff about them. Once we finished our bonding game we did a quick run to Starbucks and off to the self defense class.
Once in the self defense class, it was not what I expected. They first taught us about making sure not to put ourselves in bad situations. This can be not parking in dark allies, making eye contact with a potential attacker, or carrying pepper spray. Once the instructor finished talking to us, we split into groups and started learning different punches and kicks. There were different punching bags and a mannequin body that we practiced on. What I learned throughout this lesson was that I am not very at punching and kicking. While I was trying my very best, I was not very good at it. Having been a dancer for many years, I kept trying to kick with my toe but you need to kick with the ball of your foot.
I had a lot of fun at this sisterhood event and think I learned a lot in the hour we were in the class. Some of the girls and I want to take up kickboxing because we enjoyed it so much! While we were not the best at it, we think there is so much to learn that will help us. This class really helped me learn all of the basics. I should know if someone was to attack me and I think everyone should take a similar class because it is so useful to know!

  1. This looked like so much fun! It's super important for women to learn these skills, even though it's sad to think that way. I hope my sorority does something like this too! Not only were you able to learn valuable information, you got to spend time with your sisters!

Christmas Formals

Each year, Alpha Xi Delta hosts their Christmas formals which is one of the nicest events that we throw in the fall semester. This allows everyone in the chapter to get all dressed up and spend time with each other. This year, we were able to bring dates with us so I brought Megan. Megan knows a lot of the girls in my sorority because a couple of our friends are in the chapter so it was super fun to hang out with everyone. We started getting ready for the formal a couple hours before it started so before people could come to my house to take pictures and hang.  After some time, we all headed to the event and it was so much fun! When we first went there, we spent 30 minutes taking pictures of the different backdrops that they had set up. It was nice to have different options and fun to take pictures with everyone in the chapter. After some time, we went back upstairs and got hot chocolate and sat at the tables. Everyone talked for time and caught up with everyone else. Once everyone was

Welcome to Ada!

While I was just home last weekend, my parents wanted to come up for the weekend. One of the main reasons for them coming is Megan's parents were also coming up and this would be the first time they have met. We wanted to have a tailgate for the football game with them to get to hangout with all of our friends. In addition to hanging out with Megan's parents, my older brother and I surprised my parents by driving down to The University of Cincinnati to pick up my younger brother,  Aiden.  They haven't seen him since leaving for school so we thought this would be really cool for him to join us this weekend. When my parents saw Aiden, they were shocked. They had no idea that we were going to pick him up for the weekend. This made this whole weekend that much more fun!  We all got the our tailgate location in the late morning. The parents set up all of the food that was made and everyone enjoyed each others' company. A lot of Megan and I's friends showed up to socializ

Unexpected Visits

Ohio Northern is an amazing school but freshman year, my best friend, Kendyl transferred halfway through the academic year. She was unhappy on campus and knew that the best thing was for her to leave. I supported her knowing that Ohio Northern was not the place for her anymore but ever since, I felt like a part of me is missing. Throughout the remainder of the year, Kendyl and I would FaceTime at least once a week, as this was the best way to stay in touch and feel connected to each other.  Sophomore year came around and I was really struggling. I did not enjoy my major and was having minor roommate problems. Kendyl recognized that I was miserable and asked what she could do to help me feel better. I conceded that a weekend visit would really help. At first she did not think she would be able to, but after some convincing she made the trip. This was the best weekend I had all year! Whenever we are together, we always have the best time. Laughing the whole time, there is never a dull mo
