TikTok

TikTok may be a newer platform, but with the rapid growth of the app, there are many benefits for businesses. There are many different ways for companies to get their name out on the platform and a good portion of the time it works. Smaller businesses use TikTok in a way that is very helpful to promote their product that people would have not heard of. Other ways that companies are using TikTok as a marketing tool are pop up ads, content creator paid promotion, or build in ads.  When you first open the app, there will almost always be an ad that pops up. Additionally, this ad will tell you that you are able to skip it in five seconds. This ad is s built in ad that you have to watch through all of the way. Most of the time, these ads are coming from large companies that want to promote a new movie, food, or product. I think that these ads are the bigger companies because if it is showing right when the app is opening, it is going to cost more and smaller businesses can not afford this c

My Littles

Friday night was for sure a highlight of the school year! In Greek life, we have something called big/little. A big is someone who you look at as a mentor in life. The connection you make with your big throughout college, lasts a lifetime. This is a huge deal for the new member and the potential new bigs. Girls will spend hours going on different dates with members to make sure they find someone they connect with but for me, this was the easiest thing ever.  Since the start of the school year, there have been two freshmen, Katie and Becca that have meant so much to me. They both joined Alpha Xi and I could not have been happier. Becca is on the lacrosse team with me and we spend of a good amount time together so we have been able to get really close. Katie is in the same friend group as Becca so that is how we met but as time has passed, she started meaning so much more to me.  At our weekly meeting with all of the girls in our sorority, someone said that we needed to start going on da

YouTube

YouTube is a social platform at allows people to watch videos from creators that are posting a wide variety of videos . Some that are informational but others are meant to be entertaining. While YouTube holds many amazing features, organizations are able to use YouTube as a way of promoting their businesses in a variety of ways. Ads are incorporated in many different ways, before, during, and after the YouTube video. Businesses are able to connect with people that are watching that would be interested in the product that is trying to be sold. The way the YouTube is set up, is a great way for businesses to connect with their target market.  One of the main ways that businesses are able to get their ads posted on YouTube is by having them play before or during the videos. This allows viewers to see the brand before the video that they want to watch, I think that this is the best way for promoting an organization. There is a button that allows people to skip the ad after five seconds. Thi

Cedar Point

The thrill of riding a roller coaster can not be beat! This weekend my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta went up to Cedar Point on Saturday for a sisterhood event. This is a great way to get to know the new members better and also bond with our current sisters. Growing up I was never the biggest fan of roller coasters, but in the recent years, I started really love the going on all of the rides.  Halloween weekend is the last weekend that Cedar Point is open, so weekends leading up are very busy. The first ride we went on, we waited three hours and the time was going by super slow. We spent the firs hour catching up and talking about school.By the second hour it was tougher, we started to get hungry and felt like the line was not moving at all. We saw some other people in line playing the game HeadBandz and asked if we could join in. They said yes, so for the next chunk of time, we were all standing around a phone playing the game. This was extremely fun and really helped the time pass. The fin

LinkedIn

When looking at the content in chapter nine of "Essential of Social Media Marketing," the section of text that I want to take a deeper look into is focused on the importance of a company's LinkedIn page. When looking at applying for a new position, possible employees are going to be looking for information about the business and the LinkedIn page will be one of the first spots to gain knowledge. So much information is located on a companies LinkedIn page that will give helpful insight to how the business runs. While LinkedIn is not a platform I use now, I think when looking and applying for jobs it will become one, I use the most.  Though LinkedIn is not often used by younger teenagers, the site is popular for people who are researching companies and looking to apply for jobs. This platform not only helps potential employees, but also companies trying to get their name out to many people by simply setting up a LinkedIn Company Page. This type of page allows companies to f

Fall Break

While being at school is always fun, getting the chance to go home is a nice break. I am close with my family so going home is always an amazing time. This weekend was very busy yet enjoyable. One of my favorite parts was when all the neighbors came over to watch the Cleveland Browns game. My family loves hosting parties, especially for the Browns game! This tradition started when I was in third grade and has been happening since. Whenever there is an away game, everyone will come over to my house and we will watch the Browns play on the projector we have in the garage. This has grown substantially from where it all started. In the beginning it was just a couple families, but as the years have gone by, more and more people started coming. An hour before kickoff, the people who live across the street will come over to help us set up. They will assist with setting up the chairs and tents, get the grills started up and even helping move the couch outside. While this might seem excessive t

Pinterest

When looking at the content that is in chapter eight of "Essential of Social Media Marketing," the section of text that I want to take a deeper look into is the part that reads, "Pinterest is about connecting and engaging with audiences by sharing content those audiences want to see, not about only pushing a brand's products and services. The majority of brand's content on Pinterest should be repins from others. A good rule of thumb is for every brand-related Pin, share at least five Pins from content that belong to others." I think that this short section of text really helps give a good understanding of why Pinterest is a good app for businesses.  While many, Pinterest is a fun place to look around to find things to pin, there is another side to Pinterest that is unknown to many people. Businesses are able to use Pinterest as a way to connect with an audience that would enjoy their product. With this, they are able to get more sales and also more people l

Homecoming

Homecoming weekend is always a time to remember, with all of the fun activities that are going on around campus. This year, Ohio Northern University was celebrating 150 years and with that, homecoming was bigger than years in the past. Many alumni came back to celebrate with all of the amazing memories they have created at Ohio Northern. Campus wide there were many different events that were held including, alumni soccer games, alumni lacrosse games, alumni softball game, homecoming parade, football game and many more.  This year was the first year that the lacrosse team held our alumni game. Our program is only six years old so this was the first year we were able to have enough alumni to come back to play for the game. This was a great experience to meet all of the people that helped start the lacrosse program. Additionally, this is a big weekend for recruits to come up. One of the traditions that the women's lacrosse team has is, attending the football game together after we hav
